Father Shawn Conoboy
I am a native of Jefferson, OH (Ashtabula County). I am the youngest of six children (three brothers and two sisters). My home parish is St. Joseph Calasanctius Parish in Jefferson, where I attended CCD and Youth Ministry. I graduated from Jefferson Area High School. Upon graduation, I began at Franciscan University of Steubenville. I participated in their Priestly Discernment Program. During my time there, I transferred and was a founding member of a similar discernment program at Ave Maria College in Ypsilanti, MI. I graduated from Ave Maria with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. (After I graduated, my Alma Mater became Ave Maria University and moved to Florida.)
When I graduated, I officially became a seminarian of the Diocese of Youngstown, who sent me to the North American College in Rome for seminary formation and theological studies. I lived there for five years, and I completed two degrees: an STB (Sacred Theology Bachelors, a general theology degree equivalent to a Masters in Divinity) and an STL (Sacred Theology Licentiate, a specialized masters degree) in Spiritual Theology. I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate (Theology) at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. I have already completed all of my coursework and comprehensive exams required for the doctorate, everything except the dissertation itself. I am currently writing the dissertation, which I hope to complete this coming year. (I don't need to go to Pittsburgh with any regularity since I can do the writing here.) My topic generally speaking is the understanding of the human person in the work of St. John Paul II.
I was ordained a priest in 2006. I was assigned as parochial vicar (associate pastor) at St. Charles Parish in Boardman. And, then, I served at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Campbell, first as parochial vicar and then as pastor. From there I served as sacramental minister at Holy Family Parish in Brewster and Navarre. This past year I have been the administrator at St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.
While a seminarian, I was assigned to Little Flower Parish in Middlebranch for the summers; and, I regularly drove by the Randolph Fairgrounds. But, I never served at any parish in Portage County.
Again, I look forward to our time together
